Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between managed and unmanaged hosting?
With unmanaged hosting, you're left to your own devices. Your host provides the hardware and the bandwidth, but you're on your own when it comes to securing the system from hackers and other would-be intruders, keeping it up-to-date, creating new websites and email addresses, and troubleshooting any problems you might have. Managed hosting alleviates many of the hassles associated with dedicated hosting by providing you with a web hosting experience that delivers the ease-of-use of a shared hosting environment with the flexibility and power of your own server. With Interkey.net's fully-managed hosting, software updates, configuration, and 24/7 monitoring are performed by our talented professional team of administrators, leaving you free to get work done instead of configuring a server.
Do I have full administrator or root access to the servers?
Yes! While we control the actual administrator account, all managed servers include a fully-privileged account with access to make whatever changes you wish.
Do Interkey.net's dedicated servers include control panel software?
Due to the fully-managed nature of our dedicated servers, we do not include control panel software with our dedicated server packages by default, but we would be happy to install one for you at your request. Supported control panel software includes:
- Plesk (Windows/CentOS/Debian Linux/FreeBSD)
- Ensim (Windows/CentOS)
- Helm (Windows)
- Hosting Controller (Windows)
- DirectAdmin (CentOS/FreeBSD)
Before choosing a control panel solution, please review their supported software and ensure that they are compatible with the applications and OS you want to run. Please note that due to the cost of licensing the control panel software, the above control panel software may incur an additional monthly cost.
What Linux distributions do you support?
Our Linux dedicated servers run either the CentOS (a rebranded Red Hat Enterprise Linux) or Debian distributions of Linux. Our FreeBSD-based servers currently run the latest 5.x version of FreeBSD, which is 5.4 at the time of this writing.
I'm concerned about downtime. Is there a Service Level Agreement?
Yes! While we pride ourselves on the uptime and reliability of our service, we understand any concerns you may have when the performance of your business depends on your service provider. You can read our service level agreement here.
